Soul of Gerringong is a unique and luxurious coastal property, set between the Gerringong township and the rolling hills that meet the Ocean on the NSW South Coast, just under 2 hours south of Sydney.
This property has been carefully curated with an eye for detail from the ground up. Owners Simone and Ben Mathews from BAM Construction Groups have restored this coastal farmhouse into a sprawling luxurious coastal retreat.
From the moment you arrive at Soul you notice the charm of the property, as you walk through and begin to take in the finer details, coastal luxe decor and lush tropical-inspired landscaping, you feel relaxation setting in and begin to sink into holiday mode.
Bow and Stern were lucky enough to hold a photo-shoot in this incredible property and enjoyed our Soul experience. It's definitely come in top of the list as a our favourite coastal getaway! We can't wait for our next visit!
If you need an escape with family, friends or your overdue for a girls/guys weekend, sleeping 16 people Soul is the perfect getaway.

Where do you draw your inspiration from? Which other Australian designers, artists of creative people are you loving at the moment?
I always find inspiration by the ocean, and love the beach lifestyle - particularly the Byron vibe, a place we adore and visit regularly. We always come home feeling recharged and super inspired.
Jason Grant is an insanely talented stylist whose work I love. I also love the work of Lynda Gardner and her eclectic style, and Tahlia Lowry the creator of Byron Beach Abodes & The Bower – one super talented and beautiful human!
What would the perfect weekend at Soul consist of?
I’d arrive at Soul on a Friday afternoon with a group of my girlfriend for a fun weekend full of laughs. Ideally I’d walk in with a delicious Dandelion & Mallow grazing table already set up, together with a DIY cocktail bar to start the weekend right! We prepare this for our guests, and it always goes down a treat.
There would be no reason to leave Soul – so we’d all relax and enjoy the surrounds, enjoy a swim in the pool, and end the day with a few glasses of local wine sitting around the fireplace.
On the Saturday - as I’m a morning person, I’d get up early and head to North Werri Beach to walk the Coastal Walk to Kiama to take in the breathtaking scenery. All this walking makes a girl hungry, so I’d then head to Wild Patch Cafe in Kiama for breakfast and coffee, where they serve up the most amazing meals using local South Coast produce.
I’d be sure to squeeze in a relaxing massage back at Soul, and end the day walking to Werri Beach for a swim in the rock pool.
For dinner, there would be no need to rush out – I’d arrange for one of the talented local chefs to prepare an in-house meal for all of us to enjoy over a glass of wine (or two!), and enjoy the time talking and laughing together.
Sunday morning is zen time, so I’d start the day right with an in-house yoga class on the deck. After this, I’d take the short drive to Gerroa for a swim at Seven Mile Beach, with a pit stop at Berry to check out the homewares stores.

The most rewarding part of my job is?
I love hearing from our guests about their Soul experience.
We often receive feedback from guests saying they felt like they were in their own personal resort, with lots of quality time spent with family and friends. This makes me so happy to hear!
On the other hand, the most challenging is?
Having to say no to bookings – most definitely. I wish we could clone SOUL x 100 (well maybe 3) so we could accommodate all the booking requests we receive.

Do you have favourite brands or labels you use in styling/interior design?
Being an Interior Designer and exposed to so many brands, I am constantly inspired. It’s a joy of the job.
Do you have any exciting projects happening at the moment?
Yes! We’re currently working on the next stage of Soul, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone.
The most exciting project would definitely be working on our ‘forever home’ as we have been kind of homeless for the last few years while working on the next renovation.
In the next 5 years I’d like to be?
Personally I’ll be living and loving my forever home, alongside my beautiful family of 4 boys and hubby.
Living simply and enjoying time with family and friends – that is the goal.
I also love to travel, so spending more time travelling both overseas and locally to keep discovering new places.
Professionally - together with my husband Ben, I want to keep on creating beautiful spaces for people to enjoy.
